Today we began to give the the lavender a haircut. We are just pruning them back to help them grow. Normally you cut in July and again in October.
This is not a typical cutting they are short and much less than a older plant.
I'm going to come up with something fun with the stems that I gather from the first cutting.
This is from the first 6 rows. Only 74 to go.
This is it! The last plants to go in the ground. We will finish planting in just a few hours... Phew!
The field is finished. We have happy butterflies and bees. A total of 2238 plants are in the field. 190 Provence and 2048 Grosso lavender plants. We will be posting photos of their progress. We are hopeful that they all do very well! Thanks for your support!
Just a couple of photos from this morning the rows are filling up slow but sure... We are hoping to finish up this week! Looks like 20-23 rows to go.
So Odin has gone to his happy place after I yelled at him, Maggie is hiding under the deck. The rascals seem to like bone meal very much. They went through the field and had some tasty snack. Unfortunately, this means that about 12 plants were dug out others just had their roots exposed. I spent the morning redoing the rows... Yikes. Oh well now we know. Not sure how we are going to avoid this in the future... Now we are watching the dogs like a hawk. Have a great day! Finished the irrigation system for the rest of the field and provence is going in this afternoon!
This is the link to the Turquoise Trail Lavender Farm on Facebook. I can update the post from my phone so it gets updated immediately. If you are interested in our progress you may want to look there. Thanks for looking. I will also try to be more diligent in posting here more often. Have a great day!
808 grosso lavender in the ground! We are moving right along... Our next rows will be provence. So far the drip irrigation system is working great and the plants are all happy and thriving. We had a nice cool day yesterday, but the heat is back today. So we are back to planting early morning and late evening. We are awaiting some parts from FedEx today so I am going to go paint, I can tell you my hips and thighs are happy for the little break! Have a great day!
The pups are pretty disgusted with me. I haven't been able to take them for walks because I have been in the field. However, they do love to go our and look for lizards!
Still plants waiting to go in the ground. However, we were out early morning and have 302 plants in the ground! We will head back out when the temperatures cool this evening!
The dogs don't know what to make of the situation and are really miffed with me since I haven't been going on our daily walks. Odin is happily chasing lizards and Maggie will join on occasion, but they wait at the end of the rows under the shade of the cedar tree to see when I will be finished. They are truly disgusted with me when I walk in the house instead of up the road. They will sure be happy when the planting is over!
